THE LAND - East Meon
East Meon is an ancient village surrounded by high downs at the point where the chalk ridge of the South Downs turns northwards.
Its many fine old buildings include All Saints Church (12th century and later) and the 14th century manor house of the Bishops of Winchester, The Court House.
The River Meon (pronounced “Mean”) runs through the village, a mile from its source, before turning west and then later south to flow into the sea, after 22 miles, at the foot of Southampton Water.
